House sit
A bit more work with this house sit, but we really enjoyed the animals and the peace of the countryside.

Our Land Rover has been on a farm in Shropshire (in the company of several other Land Rovers) and Joe has had regular stays there to work on it.
The owners of the farm, lovely Tony and Ruth, needed a vacation. Since they have taken such good care of Joe when he has visited, we offered to house sit while they went away.

In addition to the house and keeping an eye on the farm, we had responsibility for one cat (Sooty), two dogs (Star and Ruby), eight geese and 15 chickens. There was also a bunk house that they rented out. It was heated by a wood burning stove which had to be lit, bed sheets to be changed and some cleaning to do between guest stays.

Jeanette is dreaming of having chickens herself one day, so it was interesting to deal with the 13 hens and two roosters. They were well behaved, and they gave us nice brown eggs for our meals.

We were up early every morning to let the chickens and geese out and feed them. The cat, which had been out all night, would come in and have his food. The dogs had a lay in every morning.

Hot oats and tea for breakfast, before Joe went out to the workshop to work on the Land Rover. Jeanette worked on her own projects in addition to watering plants in the greenhouse, give the little birds food, collect eggs, clean the house, cook and take care of various things. In the afternoon, the fires had to be lit for heating/cooking. At about eight pm, the geese and the chickens had to be locked in for the night.
We had early nights ourselves and easily fell into a deep sleep.

We had some walks up in the hills around the farm. Lovely views in all directions and nice neighbours.

A great house sitting. 🙂
